1977:

Construction of the First Polyethylene Plant

The polyolefins polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) are the most widely used plastics world-wide. They are extracted from the simpler olefins (hydrocarbons) ethylene and propylene by polymerization. Polyethylene is primarily used for the production of foils and injection-molded articles.

Linde built the first plant for the production of polyethylene in 1977 for the Czech chemical company Chemopetrol Litvinov. After the successful construction of further plants, the division was moved in the late 1990’s to Linde-KCA in Dresden. In 1999, Linde-KCA received its own first order to supply an additional polyethylene plant to Chemopetrol. In July of 2002, the new plant, in which 200,000 metric tons of polyethylene are produced annually, was turned over on time and in turnkey condition in Litvinov and successfully put into operation.

Today Linde-KCA in Dresden is one of the few plant construction companies world-wide that offers turnkey polyethylene plants.
